NodeView 1.0c

Online NodeList Viewer
NodeView: What is it?
NodeView is a program that will allow users to view a Fidonet style
nodelist while online. Users can search for any text that may be found
in the nodelist, such as sysop's names, cities, phone numbers, BBS
names, and system addresses.
NodeView supports up to 10 nodelists.
NodeView will run on any BBS that can pass the following parameters to
external programs:
- Graphics setting (0=ASCII, 1=ANSI)
- Current BAUD rate
- User's time remaining
You must also pass the COM port number to the program. Both Maximus
and RemoteAccess can easily pass these parameters to external programs,
and ANY BBS package worth more than 10¢ should also be able to pass
these parameters.
NodeView requires a fossil driver to be installed. It may not work
properly if you use BNU.COM. X00.SYS and BNU.SYS should work fine.
Setting up NodeView
Setting up NodeView is quite easy. First you must edit the
configuration file, NODEVIEW.CFG, to contain the name(s) and filename(s)
of your nodelist(s). A sample NODEVIEW.CFG is included.
Each nodelist requires TWO lines in NODEVIEW.CFG. The first line is
the nodelist name, or title, that will be displayed to users. The
second line is the FULL PATH AND FILENAME of the raw nodelist. NOTE:
Do *NOT* include an extension with your nodelist filename! Nodelists
are always changing, with the extension ranging from .001 to .365.
The highest numbered nodelist is the most current. NodeView will
find all the nodelists with the specified filenames, and it will
determine the most recent version based on the extension.
For example: (NODEVIEW.CFG file)
Fidonet Nodelist
D:\FD\NODELIST\FIDONET
GalukoNet Nodelist
D:\FD\NODELIST\GALUKO
QuinteNet Nodelist
D:\FD\NODELIST\QUINTE
My D:\FD\NODELIST directory contains these nodelist files:
FIDONET.007
FIDONET.057
FIDONET.071
GALUKO.008
GALUKO.015
QUINTE.078
In the above sample, NodeView will use these two nodelists:
D:\FD\NODELIST\FIDONET.071 and
D:\FD\NODELIST\GALUKO.015 and
D:\FD\NODELIST\QUINTE.078
because those are the two latest versions! SO, do NOT supply
a filename extension when listing the path and filename of your
nodelist(s)!
COMMAND LINE USAGE:
NODEVIEW <COMPORT> <BAUD RATE> <GRAPHICS> <TIMELEFT>
For RemoteAccess, you would setup the program as a TYPE 7 external
program, with the following optional data field:
D:\RA\NODEVIEW.EXE 2 *B *G *T
Replace the '2' with your COM port number, and of course use the
path to YOUR copy of NODEVIEW.EXE.
NODEVIEW.EXE must be run from the current directory, and the .CFG file
must be located in the current directory as well. It is easiest to
simply place both NODEVIEW files in your main BBS directory.
If you use another BBS package (heaven forbid <G>!) then you'll have
to set the program up using your own BBS's methods.
Using NodeView
NodeView will present the user with a menu, showing all the available
nodelists. The user must first choose a nodelist to view. If there
is only one nodelist available it will automatically be selected.
After selecting a nodelist, the user will have the option of searching
for text within the nodelist, searching for a specific network address,
getting help, choosing another nodelist, or exiting the program.
Systems that are private or down will not be shown, and HUBS are not
shown, since they are always listed twice anyways.
When searching for a Network Address, ALL systems will be shown, HUBS
included. If a system is down the word DOWN will replace the phone
number.
That's about all I have to say! I hope you find this program useful!
